Following is an abbreviated list of essential oils available through FlowerRoad.net. It includes plant origin and common applications. This is intended as an introductory primer for those who are new to aromatherapy.

Sandalwood – extracted from the roots and heartwood of the Sandalwood tree, found in Vietnam, Nepal, Southern India, the South Pacific (New Caledonia), and Sri Lanka. Sandalwood organic essential oil is calmative and has antimicrobial, astringent, antispasmodic, digestive, analgesic and other properties. It is potent and should always be used in organic carrier oils. Because of the over production of Sandalwood (Santalum album) in India, Flower Road only buys farmed Sandalwood (Santalum austrocalidonicum) from New Caledonia.

Lavender Fine – Flower Road lavender organic essential oil comes from France and is harvested from the Lavandula angustifolia shrub. Lavender is calming, cooling, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, beneficial to the skin and useful for numerous conditions. It’s highly versatile and one of the “Top Ten Essential Oils” of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

Ylang Ylang X Super – From the cananga tree in Madagascar, this is also on the NAHA top ten list. Ylang Ylang Extra (sold here) ranks highest among the grades of this essential oil, resulting from the first extraction and thus being the most concentrated. Ylang Ylang fights infection, calms, and helps balance the skin, among other applications.

Geranium Bourbon – Also from Madagascar, this essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowers of the Pelargonium graveolens and is an astringent, antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-spasmodic and more.

Ginger – From Madagascar, Zingiber officinalis is a warming essential oil used to treat gastrointestinal ailments and has anti-inflammatory properties.
